How Do We Navigate Space?
with Strawdog Theatre

How Do We Navigate Space? is an original, devised hybrid of film and theatre. This work explores the experiences of Chicagoans navigating through our current, drastically-changed world. The piece is inspired by surveys submitted by Chicago residents sharing their experiences during 2020. Combining movement, music, visual art and the voices of Chicagoans, the film will express a non-linear story of our diverse and complex city in the search for connection.

The Nine Lives of a Cat

Working with a cellist, an electronic musician, a gymnast, and a lead actor in the title role, we performed a biographical piece covering the Italian naive artist Antonio Ligabue at PROP THTR and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago September of 2019. The piece was written and directed by Denise Yvette Serna.

Through The Veil

"Through The Veil" was an Easter Holy Week performance produced and performed by Matthew Moore of Lamp and Light Productions. The show ran from March 28 to March 31, 2018 at the Greenhouse Theater Center in Chicago. The 80-minute performance told the life of Christ through the dramatic recitation of scripture, live musical performances, and live art. I was tasked with the conception, refinement, and execution of 4 pieces of fine art to be replicated and completed during each of the 5 performances of "Through The Veil".

In order to do this, I worked with the producer and the director to brainstorm and draft initial designs and processes for each piece. Then after testing materials on small-scale versions of the art pieces, we practiced the entire performance together 3 times so I would get a feel for how long I would have to execute each piece. Each piece took roughly 2 minutes to complete, as constrained by the musical performance. All pieces were made on moistened burlap using charcoal, fabric dye, and acrylic paint.
