These pieces are strongly influenced by the philosophy of traditional East Asian ink wash paintings; to capture the spirit of the painting's subject rather than merely representing its form. With this in mind, I created a series of paintings with a flowing single-line style at the meeting place of portraiture, still life, and abstraction.
They started as therapeutic release from the angst I felt being a housewife and stay-at-home artist. They were just a lot of fun for me to make. Even so, I found that I couldn't keep my insecurities away from the way I perceived this series. What first captured beauty began to also capture the underlying thrum of melancholy, worthlessness, fragility, and unseenness that permeated the beginning of my career.
You can purchase prints of these pieces here, as well as a t shirt of the third design, "Palm".
